Pip has always been fearless. So, when he first hopped on a boogie board, we knew he was going to be an adventure cat. When the ocean water in Ocean City, MD started getting a bit to chilly to take a dip, we began taking Pip out on our paddle board. You can buy a life vest for your fur-baby too here!
The canals of Ocean Pines are perfect for Pip because the water is usually calm. There is a nice mild current that either pushes us along, or gives us some resistance, but never any waves that might throw the little cat off.
The first time Pip went out on the water, he was a little bit afraid. You could tell he was confused, but also curious, about the water surrounding him. By the second time he went out, he was much calmer and after exploring the board, settled in for a ride on the bay!
Pip was born a natural lover of the water. He was curious about the ocean the first time we took him to the beach, and even hopped on a boogie board! But not all cats are like this; however, you won’t know until you try! Step one is getting your cat used to being on a leash and wearing a harness. This can take a month or two for them to get used to. Then you can take them to explore the back yard, and as they grow more and more comfortable you can try to take them on adventures! A great resource is “Adventure Cats” by Laura J. Moss! which you can also buy at our local bookstore here in Berlin, Maryland… The Greyhound- An Indie Bookstore!
